AM’s Wall Painted Over During Pyrénées Jam
From Daniela
The piece that AM did on 10/10 near Porte de Vincennes no longer exists, except for on this Tumblr, in photos and on video. Scroll to 1:45 in the clip to watch it disappear.
A theme that AM and I discussed in Paris was graffiti’s temporary nature and the state of mind an artist enters while creating something they know...

Paris Adventures: Searching For Jim Morrison's...
By Daniela
Happy Halloween, friends and fam. In the spirit of the holiday, I wanted to share some photos from our 10/14 trip to Pere Lachaise Cemetery. I was in the mood to lose myself someplace quiet. I decided not to bring a map and would risk wandering around the rows of solemn stones, in search of Jim Morrison’s grave.
Surprisingly, what I ended up noticing the most was how...

We just need to catch up on our sleep. I...

AM returned once again to Porte de Vincennes, only this time she took over the ill corner spot with Kashink. Their collaboration is HUGE! I hope it lasts through the end...

For A Cup Of Water
From Daniela
Tonight (10/14) is our last night in Paris (for this phase of the project). AM is off to take some more photos of her last wall (pics coming in a few hours) and I’m at the flat going through footage and uploading photos like mad.
This morning we woke up early — only to discover the water was cut for the entire building (construction #fail). So here I sit, fiddling with...

Female Factor: French Women Still Await True... →
excerpt:
“Courtesy of the state, French women seem to have it all: multiple children, a job and, often, a figure to die for.
What they don’t have is equality: France ranks 46th in the World Economic Forum’s 2010 gender equality report, trailing the United States, most of Europe, but also Kazakhstan and Jamaica. Eighty-two percent of French women aged 25-49 work, many of them full-time,...

AM's Printmaking Workshop At MCV In Paris
From Daniela
Most people who visit Paris are focused on eating fantastic cheese and seeing the Eiffel Tower. Yes, we checked out the Eiffel Tower too, but AM was also committed to completing all the things in her proposal for this residency, which included engaging with local youth.
So for the past two Saturdays (10/2 & 10/9), Alice donated her time to a youth center in the 19th...

Paris Adventures: Sennelier Art Store
From Daniela
I had never heard of the Sennelier art store in Paris before AM started gushing about it non stop since our arrival. It was like watching a kid in a candy store. The shop is located across the seine from the Louvre.
To get to Sennelier, you just walk across that famous bridge that has all the locks on it from couples who think that putting a lock on the fence and throwing away the...

Paris Adventures: elles@centrepompidou
By Daniela
I love the Pompidou. I visited Paris for the first time in 2007 and it was the highlight of my trip. From the outside it looks kind of like a giant (my American frame of reference) McDonaId’s play place, made of different colored tubes. Inside I feel like I am in a classy space station.

AM's First Wall In Paris: The Misunderstood...
From AM
This wall was inspired by CLEOPATRA. I have recently been studying Goddesses and Cleopatra often comes up as the reincarnate of Isis (the Goddess of motherhood, magic and fertility). She was also know to dress like the Goddess Venus (the goddess of love).
To me, she embodies beauty, strength and power while still maintaining grace and femininity.
Often Cleopatra is presented in a...

I cannot tell you how long I’ve been meaning to do a post on this very subject - especially with the numerous posts I see on tumblr that address almost every other type of privilege (heterosexual, white, male, able-bodied, cis-gendered, wealthy, etc) but American and Western privilege. In some earlier posts of mine, I tried to combat this topic through the...

There's So Much More
By AM
“There’s so much more to who you are than you know right now. You are, indeed, something mysterious and someone magnificent. You hold within you- secreted for safekeeping in your heart - a great gift for this world. Although you might sometimes feel like a cog in a huge machine, that you don’t really matter in the great scheme of things, the truth is that you are fully...

Artist Residency & Print 1: Maat
By Daniela
What is an artist residency? I may be part of AM’s, but that doesn’t mean I completely knew how an Artist-in-residence program worked before I arrived.
From what I understand (and Alice can fill us in later), an artist residency/Artist-in-residence program is when an institution or artist organization invites an artist to stay at their location and provides housing and...
